Breeze Salon Reno

April 2019 commemorates a beautiful shift in Reno’s hairdressing industry-Breeze Salon has moved to a bigger, brighter area! Surrounded with windows and a private outside door, this storefront studio is full of sunshine.

Breeze Salon Director and Hairdresser, Rebecca Schembri, is elated, “I cried. I cried for a very long time. It took three-plus years to find availability and when I got news that the suite was mine, I felt like a long bout of patience, sweat, and vision-boarding came to culmination.”

Nestled in the Midtown district in Reno, Nevada, Breeze now has street access that clients and visitors can use. Just two blocks from the Virginia strip, restaurants and shops are everywhere. The establishment is putting out signage to attract new clients and to amplify the ambiance for regulars.

Ample lighting in the salon includes a beautiful chandelier

“I love the chandelier! The whole experience is much more relaxing and the lighting is multiplied in this new studio,” Rebecca says with a smile. “With two walls of glass windows and a glass door, I no longer need to send clients out into the sun with a hand mirror, just to get an accurate read on their background color. Makeup and wedding services will be much easier, too, since natural lighting is helpful for bridal parties.”

Rosebushes and landscaping adorn the views outside Breeze’s new studio. The spacious windows will allow for sunset-watching as well, as the salon is open evenings all summer. “As a Makeup Artist and Colorist, I couldn’t be happier. I have great lighting, lots of space and beautiful views,” Rebecca muses.

“I love the side door. Now clients can relax in the lobby or come in through the outside door to check in. It’s very convenient!”

Breeze Salon Reno is located in the same building as before, at 1091 Haskell Street, #12 (new suite). Midtown cross streets are Caliente/Haskell. As for the construction on Virginia Street, clients can expect delays for another year. Plumas Street is the recommended alternative route.

Highlighting and Contouring Makeup

Babylights Breeze Salon Reno

The buzzwords highlighter and contour have been circulating for a few years now. If you need help understanding how to apply and choose your colors, read on..

For starters, good skin tone is the foundation of any great makeup look. With many modern women opting out of foundation, a good complexion can be as easy as keeping fit with exercise, nutrition and lots of water. If you prefer not to go bare, apply a thin layer of foundation in your skin type need: lotion or powder for oily skin, cream for dry skin. Concealer can be used sparingly as needed.

Contouring and Highlighting Brings the Attention to Your Eyes

After you have your base figured out, choose a contour that is the same texture as your base: powder for powder, cream for cream. If you are bare-skinned or only have a powder contour, apply a translucent powder across the entirety of your face with a fat, fluffy brush first. Your contour should be in a neutral brown that is two shades darker than your skin tone. For special events and photography, you can go three shades darker.

Since contouring recedes, smooth it into a soft frame around your face and neck, shoulders included, (if you are showing them). This dark recession will cause framing around your face, bringing the attention to your eyes and mouth.

Highlighting, or lightening, is one shade lighter than your skin tone and can be matte (not shiny) or pearlesque (shimmery). For skin that is over 30 years of age, opt for matte since shimmer magnifies fine lines.

Highlighting lifts the face

Use matte highlighter for photo sessions

Highlighting lifts the face and accentuates the beauty of your bone structure. I prefer cream highlighters in matte or shimmer. Apply under your browbone and in a big, dotted “C” shape beginning just outside the center of your forehead and around the outsides of your temples, down to the tops of your cheeckbones.

If you have a proportionate nose, you can also run a thin line down the center of your nose and lightly tap the upper lip and center of your chin. A little goes a long way, so be gentle and remember to blend.

Want to be beautiful all day long in just five minutes? I can show you how.

As a makeup artist, I have to do good work quickly since YOU have places to go! Here is a beauty base you can flaunt in just minutes:

First, you will need the following items:

CONCEALER, BRONZER, BLUSH, MASCARA, LIP GLOSS or CRÉME,  and MAKEUP BRUSHES

Next:

~Apply CONCEALER with foundation brush in the t-zone and to blemishes. Blend outwards

~Apply BRONZER with bronzing brush to all outsides of the face and neckline. Include under the cheekbone

~Apply BLUSH to apples of the cheeks. BLEND into bronzer with circular motions with a big, clean powder brush

~Apply MASCARA to both sides of top lashes and to bottom, if desired.  Two coats are great as long as you wait a minute between coats. Brush out any clumps with a dry mascara wand or lash brush

~Apply COLOR LIPGLOSS in matte or shiny

The emphasis in this look is bright skin. If you want extra beautiful, you can add on from here…especially if it’s date night.

Good luck! Feel free to comment about your experience below.

How to Apply False Eyelashes

Hair and Makeup by Rebecca Schembri

Artificial eyelashes are a great option for enhancing your look and making your eyes look bigger. Especially fun for photo shoots, weddings and holiday parties, putting lashes on can be easy, if you know how.

First, get lashes that are soft and have a thin band. This makes them easier to bend to your eye shape.

Next, measure the lashes by comparing them to yours. They should not be longer than your natural lash line. If they are longer, cut them on the outside end to fit.

Apply mascara to your eyelashes. Let it dry.

Add clear or black eyelash glue, depending on your preference, to the artificial lashes. Let the glue get tacky before you adhere the band to your natural lashes.

Stick the lashes to your lashes, not to your eyelid. Press with your fingertips and let dry.

Done. Now you can go party. Your lashes should stay until the morning when you gently peel them off.

Hair and Sleep

Princesses Really DO Need Their Beauty Sleep

For both women and men, having a full head of hair can be as simple as getting a good night’s sleep, regularly.

Healthy, happy and well-nourished bodies contribute to functioning hair follicles. This means that if you exercise, get good nutrition and keep the stress in your life to a positive, your hair will not only grow, it will also hold on.

Shedding or loss of hair is often due to severe demands on the body and mind.  The body thinks it is in a state of emergency and will shed or stop producing the things it doesn’t need such as hair, scalp sebum and body weight.

Making it a habit to get a good night’s rest and to exercise and eat healthy can calm your organism and encourage it to show signs of vitality.  That means you get flowy, shiny hair and healthy, glowing skin…coveted gems in the beauty world!

It’s summertime and it is time to rest that hair. Do you know how to wear your tresses on the natural and how to style without a mirror?

Let’s recap our beauty rules for warm weather:

~ Learn how to braid. From long French braids to little front side braids, braiding makes you look pretty without the fuss, especially if you are playing outside.

~ Carry a leave-in conditioner in your beach bag. From Argon or Moroccan oil to sea sprays and curl creams, these revive and refresh your hair before and after warm weather fun.

~Use your fingers. Natural styles emphasize definition. Form and tousle your hair throughout the day, leaving that round winter brush where it belongs…in the bathroom.

~Get accessories. Pins, flowers, headbands and hats are a little party for your head and you can keep them in your bag for last minute beauty smarts.

Remember, natural styling is good for your hair. Be sure to give it the summer retreat it deserves and let it be healthy. Enjoy the season!
